Do you know Karen Armstrong? If not, it is high time to change it. This former Catholic nun is the author of numerous works on comparative religion, most famous among them being “A History of God”. Well known is her statement that
All the great traditions are saying the same thing in much the same way, despite their surface differences.
Armstrong, born 1944 in Great Britain, has taught at London’s Leo Baeck Rabbinic College and is a fellow of Jesus Seminar, one of the most active groups in Biblical criticism. In 2008 she received the Freedom of Worship award from the Roosevelt Institute. We found a fragment of a conversation between her and Alan Jones, who at that time was still the dean of Grace Cathedral, San Francisco. Thus met two genuine thinkers on religion, culture, tradition and Scripture. It’s a pity that there is just a part of that conversation available, but still it’s worth watching.
