Advent Retreat

Polish Episcopal Network organizes the Advent Retreat “And the Word Became Flesh” on 14-16 December 2012.

We want to focus on what is the most important and deepest meaning of the Advent period: preparation for the Incarnation event which we commemorate each year on Christmas. In the creed we confess our faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, “who was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary, and was made man.” What meaning do these words have in our lives? Are they only a solemn, a bit pompous, way of speaking about the birth of Jesus of Nazareth two thousand years ago in the far Palestine? Perhaps they point to something more – for example to the fact that the Word of God can only be active in the world and transform it when continuously made flesh in each of us and in the communities we belong to? If it is so, it is worthwhile to reflect on how it happens: concretely and palpably.
Incarnation is at the same time the central point of reference in the Anglican tradition. The theme of the retreat will enable us then to take another step towards answering the question what Anglicanism/Episcopalianism actually is and what its characteristics and landmarks are.

The retreat will take place in the picturesque village Lazy in the the Jerzmanowice district located in the Jurassic Krakow-Czestochowa Upland . We will be welcoming the participants on Friday the 14th from 6 pm in the youth hostel “Malgosia.” Transport from Cracow will be organized for those who come by train or by bus. The meeting will be concluded on Sunday afternoon with the Eucharist.

Like other meetings organized by the Polish Episcopal Network, the retreat has an ecumenical character. We invite all regardless of convictions, denomination, sexual orientation, etc. In accordance with the rules of the Episcopal Church, all baptized are welcome to receive Holy Communion. If someone has a need to make an individual confession or simply to talk with a minister, the priest(s) will be available for you. The Rev. Prof. Konrad M.P. Rudnicki, who faithfully supports us in building the Episcopal presence in Poland, will be at the retreat and we hope that, like before, a priest from the Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe will be with us also.
